…and so, the Academy has delivered its annual announcement yesterday. Ten films have made their way into 2023’s 96th Best Picture nominees, for airing March 10th, 2024:

“American Fiction”

“The Holdovers”
“Killers of the Flower Moon”
“Maestro”
“Oppenheimer”
“Past Lives”
“Poor Things”
“The Zone of Interest”
BEST DIRECTOR:
Justine Triet, “Anatomy of a Fall”
Martin Scorsese, “Killers of the Flower Moon”
Christopher Nolan, “Oppenheimer”
Yorgos Lanthimos, “Poor Things”
Jonathan Glazer, “The Zone of Interest”
It’s this show’s 1st time being recorded upright (not that the latest videos & raw footage aren’t usually recorded this way nowadays…). Last year was a 2×1 version, now it’s swapped dimensions into 9×16!
All I can think about these days is a Nolan marathon – his Memento caught my attention and I haven’t thought about much else during this past summer’s #Barbenheimer IMAX display. Unquestionably, this is his “magnum opus.” For the win!
Must also applaud their overdue recognition of Actor Paul Giamatti – whose past work over the years on The Truman Show and Sideways was startlingly absent – finally gets a nod for Best Actor!!
